Jake Paul’s fiancee Jutta Leerdam blasts Winter Olympic critics with emotional social media post
Jutta Leerdam hit out at her critics in a passionate social media post after winning gold at the Winter Olympics.
Leerdam triumphed for the Netherlands in the women’s 1,000 metres speed skating at Milan Cortina last week.
In doing so, she set a new Olympic record of 1:12.31.
Leerdam, who is engaged to YouTuber-turned boxer Jake Paul, also scooped a silver medal in the women’s 500m event.
The 27-year-old took to social media on Thursday to reflect on an incredible fortnight at the Winter Olympics.
However, her post was accompanied by an image of her celebrating with eyeliner running down her face rather than using one of her holding aloft her gold medal.
The picture was purposely posted as she sought to hit back at critics who had condemned her for wearing eyeliner and make-up during events.
What did Leerdam say about her critics?
“For me, this picture captured everything my Olympics stood for,” she wrote on Instagram.
“This moment proves you don’t have to become less of yourself to achieve something great.
“That your looks don’t define you as a person or as an athlete.
“That if you work hard and stay determined, it will all come together.
“It’s so ironic because my winged eyeliner and make-up are something I’ve been judged for during my whole career, when all it ever did was give me confidence and make me feel feminine and powerful.”
“The pressure I’ve felt, the judgment I’ve dealt with around so many things, the hard work I’ve been putting in for so many years all came together in this moment.
“I never felt the need to prove anything.
Leerdam continued: “I did this for me, my younger self, my family and for all women who don’t want to be put in a box and just want to be their authentic selves.
“A reminder that you can be soft and strong, disciplined and feminine, all at once.
“Never let anyone dim your light.”
The sentiment was evidently shared by Paul, who shared a heartfelt embrace with Leerdam in the moments following her gold-medal win.
The couple, who have been in a relationship for almost three years, announced their engagement in March 2025 and Paul has been a huge supporter of his partner’s blossoming career.
Leerdam clinched gold by smashing fellow Dutch competitor Femke Kok’s time of 1:12.59 by 0.28 seconds.
Kok’s time was the quickest at an Olympics making Leerdam’s feat even more impressive.
