Irked Lane Kiffin fires back at reporter after being called out over heated exchange: ‘I don’t even know your name’

Lane Kiffin might have coached his final game with the Ole Miss Rebels, and what a game it was.

The Egg Bowl became the egg brawl on Friday afternoon as Kiffin led the now 11-1 Rebels to a definitive 38-19 victory over arch-rivals Mississippi State in a game punctuated by a massive fight as well as accusations of locker room break-ins and stolen quarterback jerseys.

The bitter clash came against the backdrop of months of speculation around Kiffin’s Ole Miss future.

The Rebels head coach is reportedly the subject of a massive $90 million offer from LSU, who fired Brian Kelly despite facing a $54 million buyout on Wednesday.

Kiffin’s impending decision has been the talk of the college football world for weeks, and several days ago, On3 reporter and Ole Miss podcaster Ben Garrett called him out over his reputation for job-hopping.

Garrett said, “can’t turn a hoe into a housewife; hoes don’t act right,” which prompted Kiffin to angrily confront him after Friday’s victory.

“You want to walk in here and call me a hoe?” Kiffin said to Garrett during a tense exchange. “We’ll see how that goes.”

Visibly irked Lane Kiffin fires back at different reporter during press conference

Kiffin, whose decision could trigger a worrying precedent for Ole Miss’ playoff hopes, was asked about the interaction in his post-game press conference.

A different reporter quizzed him about why he was ‘so upset’ with what Garrett had said.

“I understand your guys’ job. I think things are fair,” Kiffin responded.

“Like I say, with questions, those are fair questions. Maybe I can answer them. Maybe I don’t see them the same. But when you call someone a hoe, that’s a different level of stuff. ‘Can’t make hoes in the housewives’ or something like that.

“That’s about as bush league as stealing Trinidad’s jersey, like Mississippi State did last night. Luckily, we got another one, so I ain’t got any respect for that.”

However, a different reporter appeared to push back on Kiffin’s response.

“I don’t either, but that wasn’t the comment,” an unnamed reporter said to a surprised looking Kiffin.

“The comment was, ‘You can’t turn a hoe into a housewife; hoes don’t act right.’ It’s not calling you a hoe. It’s about commitment. That’s what really the question is. You wanted the commitment from people to ask you about where you’re committed to. You’re still not doing that. So you don’t think there’s anything wrong with getting upset about something so innocuous as that?”

Kiffin looked primed to respond but a Rebels official stepped in before things escalated and waved the question off.

“Let’s move on from that,” they said.

“I’m not playing down to your game,” a visibly irked Kiffin said. “I actually don’t even know your name.”

Last week the Ole Miss administration publicly stated that Kiffin would be making his decision on the Saturday after the Egg Bowl game.

Ahead of the Egg Bowl, Ole Miss Athletic Director Keith Carter revealed that Kiffin would confirm that announcement.

“Coach Kiffin and I have had many pointed and positive conversations regarding his future at Ole Miss, including meeting today with Chancellor Boyce,” Carter said. “While we discuss next steps, we know we cannot lose sight of what is most important — our sixth-ranked team that is poised to finish the regular season in historic fashion.”

“An announcement on Coach Kiffin’s future is expected on Saturday following the game.”

However, even immediately after the Egg Bowl, Kiffin admitted he still hadn’t made his mind up yet.

“No, I haven’t,” Kiffin said. “I got a lot of praying to do to figure that out tomorrow but right now I’m just going to enjoy these players.”

Lane Kiffin gets emotional discussing dad Monte

Kiffin was also asked who he would ask on for advice about his upcoming decision in his post-game press conference, and he got a emotional while answering.

“I miss my dad,” an emotional Kiffin told reporters.

“I really missed him this week. My two calls will be the closest to that for advice, what my dad would say to do on these things. That’ll be Coach Carroll and Coach Saban. Kind of wish when you have things to do in life, that your dad was there. But it is what it is.”

Kiffin’s father, Monte Kiffin, was a former NFL coach, who passed away last year at the age of 84.

Following the press conference, Kiffin uploaded a photo of the Egg Bowl trophy to social media along with the caption: “At the office now. Pops thumbs up!! Wish I could hug you right now and you could guide me. Love ya”.

He also shared a post from a reporter who wrote: “Pretty obvious today during the postgame press conference how much Kiffin misses Monte, who was the kind of person that created a sense of warmness in every setting and treated everybody like they were somebody.”
