IPL 2026: DC vs MI, Match 8 - Top player battles to watch out for
Match 8 of the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) sees the Delhi Capitals (DC) lock horns with the Mumbai Indians (MI) at the historic Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on Saturday, April 4. The afternoon game is the first of two matches set to be played in the IPL on Saturday.
DC won their opening game of the new season in a convincing fashion against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in Uttar Pradesh. Their outstanding bowling lineup restricted LSG to just 141, with the team from the capital city chasing the total down with six wickets in hand.
MI, on the other hand, also won their opening game in a dominating fashion, beating the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on home soil by six wickets. The five-time champions chased down 221 at the Wankhede Stadium after they were set up brilliantly by their openers Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton, who put on a 148-run partnership.
The game on Saturday afternoon is expected to be a closely fought encounter between two sides that have well-balanced squads at their disposal. DC’s in-form bowling unit will face off against MI’s hard-hitting batting department, while a Jasprit Bumrah-led bowling attack will battle against exciting T20 batters like KL Rahul and Tristan Stubbs, amongst others.
Here are 3 player battles for DC vs MI, Match 8 of IPL 2026:
3. KL Rahul vs Trent Boult
KL Rahul and Trent Boult have faced off against one another 15 times in the history of the IPL, but still have a very close record. While Boult’s excellence with the new ball has seen him get the better of Rahul on three occasions, the right-handed batter has scored 140 runs from 93 deliveries he has faced from the Kiwi, scoring at a strike-rate of 150.53.
Rahul averages 46.66 against Boult, with this player battle set to resume once again in the opening stages of their game on Saturday.
2. David Miller vs Jasprit Bumrah
If DC aim to get the better of MI in the latter stage of their batting innings, they will desperately want Miller to get the better of Bumrah. The right-arm seamer is excellent at the death, with his variations and control putting a halt to the scoring spree.
Bumrah has dismissed Miller twice in eight IPL innings, while the South African batter has scored 43 runs against the 32-year-old, at a strike-rate of 134.37.
1. Rohit Sharma vs Axar Patel
DC captain Axar Patel tends to bring himself into the attack during the powerplay, where he could face off against his former India skipper Rohit Sharma. The spinner, however, has a pretty one-sided record against Rohit in the IPL.
Axar has dismissed Rohit thrice in 10 innings, while the right-hander has scored just 63 runs at a strike-rate of just 91.30.
