There will be a total of 16 sports in Italy, including alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, luge and speed skating.

Ski mountaineering will also debut at the Winter Olympics after receiving IOC approval in 2021.

Team GB will be taking part in the Winter Olympics as they look to improve upon their 2022 medal haul.

How many medals did Team GB win at Beijing 2022?

Team GB won just two medals in Beijing four years ago.

Both medals came in the curling as the women’s team beat Japan in the final game 10-3 to claim gold.

The men’s team, meanwhile, collected silver after losing the gold medal match to Sweden 5-4 after an extra end.

Team GB failed to achieve their target of 3-7 medals.

The team won five medals in total at the 2014 and 2018 Games – their best ever hauls.

Norway topped the medal table four years ago with 37 podiums, ten ahead of Germany in second with United States third with 25.

A total of 348 medals will be up for grabs in Italy this winter.

Who could podium in Italy?

Team GB have a number of medal hopefuls in Italy next month.

Mia Brookes is hoping to become the first Brit to win two medals at a single Winter Olympics.

There are high hopes for the teenager in the snowboarding on the slopestyle and big air events.

Similarly, Charlotte Bankes is another snowboarder who will fancy her chances of claiming a medal, albeit in the snowboard cross.

Team GB are also tipped to go the distance in the curling in the men’s, women’s, and mixed events.

In figure skating, there are high hopes that Lilah Fear and Lewis Gibson will become the first British pair to win an Olympic medal in 42 years.

Matt Weston and Marcus Wyatt are also tipped to podium in the skeleton on Cortina’s freshly approved run.

Zoe Atkin and Kirsty Muir are also potential medal winners in the freestyle skiing, the former in the halfpipe, and the latter in the slopestyle and big air.

The bobsleigh, both four-man and two-man, is another sport where Team GB could claim gold, silver, or bronze.

Finally, Dave Ryding will hope to cap his fifth Winter Olympics with a winners’ medal in the alpine skiing.
