Grizzlies nearly break bonkers 3-point NBA record in loss to Cavaliers

To say that the Memphis Grizzlies have given up on the 2025-26 season would be a major understatement. Ever since trading Jaren Jackson Jr. at the trade deadline, the Grizzlies organization has only had one thing in mind: lottery balls. But that doesn’t mean that the Grizzlies aren’t going to get out there and try to develop their young players to see which ones have a chance of sticking beyond this campaign.

On Monday night, the entire Grizzlies roster simply decided to make as many three-pointers as they possibly could. Despite Memphis’ 142-126 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers, fans must have been thoroughly entertained with the show they put up from beyond the arc, as they tied an NBA-record for most threes made in a single game by making 29 shots from deep on the night.

The Grizzlies tied the record the Boston Celtics (October 22, 2024) and Milwaukee Bucks (December 29, 2020) set for most three-point makes in a single game, which is an impressive feat even though their defense was not worth writing home about whatsoever.

Even though they made 29 triples, allowing the Cavs to shoot over 58 percent from the field was always going to be a death sentence. Nonetheless, with Memphis not playing to win, losing in style has to at least feel good for fans who want nothing more than for their team to get back to winning ways by building through the NBA Draft.

All players who got minutes for the Grizzlies on Monday night made a three-pointer, which is quite remarkable and telling of where the NBA is heading. But Memphis has sacrificed size and defense to prioritize shooting, which is why they ended up losing anyway despite their three-point explosion.

Dariq Whitehead and Adama Bal, recent acquisitions for the Grizzlies, both drilled six threes each, while Lucas Williamson added five triples.
