Gabriel Martinelli creates Arsenal history that even Thierry Henry failed to manage
Gabriel Martinelli has achieved an Arsenal first with his goal against Club Brugge.
The Brazilian found the net with a superb effort from distance in the Gunners’ Champions League clash with the Belgian outfit on Wednesday night.

It is Martinelli’s fifth goal in five matches in the competition this season as Arsenal raced to a 3-0 lead with Noni Madueke scoring the other two.
Martinelli has now become the first player in Gunners history to score in five consecutive Champions League appearances.
It follows his strikes in their wins against Athletic Bilbao, Olympiakos, Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich.
Martinelli also provided an assist off the bench during their opening match against Bilbao.
However, he was forced to miss November’s trip to Slavia Prague through injury.
Despite that, the 24-year-old has more than doubled his Champions League goal tally for the Gunners.
Martinelli now has nine goals to his name in 24 appearances in the competition.
Arsenal history makers
Meanwhile, he is only the third Arsenal player ever to score in five straight appearance in a major European competition.
Ian Wright was the first to do so during the 1994/95 Cup Winners’ Cup.
The former England striker was on target in eight straight matches as Arsenal made it all the way to the final.

However, he was unable to add to his tally as they suffered an extra-time defeat to Real Zaragoza.
Thierry Henry also scored in six matches in a row in the 1999/2000 UEFA Cup under Arsene Wenger.
His scoring streak stretched from their last 32 second leg against Nantes to a semi-final second leg victory over Lens.
Arsenal once again reached the final of the competition, this time losing on penalties to Galatasaray.
Martinelli will be hoping it will hope to snap the losing streak if his scoring spree helps Mikel Arteta’s side reach the Champions League final.
He can equal Henry’s feat by scoring in their next match against Inter Milan on January 20.

Meanwhile, he would need to continue scoring into the knockout stages in order to match Wright’s achievement.
Arsenal conclude their league phase campaign at home to Kazakhstan-based club Kairat next month.
They are on course to advance directly to the last 16 having already secured a spot in the knockout stages.
Arteta has seen his side win each of their opening five matches to sit top of the league phase standings on maximum points.
