There were eight top flight games in a night packed with drama.

Logan started off the show, but 20 minutes later she had to rush off.

Stunned viewers returned from match footage to find Mark Chapman sitting in the host’s chair.

He said: “Sadly Gabby has got a family emergency that she had to rush off and deal with.

“She’s gone to do that and I’ve come from the radio to finish the show.”

Logan, who is married to former Scotland rugby star Kenny Logan, has not released any updates herself.

The pair have twins Reuben and Lois, who were born in 2005.

Who presents Match of the Day?

Gary Lineker had presented MOTD since 1999, but left the show at the end of last season.

The BBC then announced that three people would share hosting duties as his replacement.

Gabby Logan, Mark Chapman and Kelly Cates are all sharing the role.

What happened in the Premier League

Arsenal were the biggest winners of the evening, despite not even playing.

Man City stumbled in their pursuit of the Gunners at the top of the Premier League after being held to a 1-1 draw by Brighton, which leaves the Gunners with the chance to open up an eight-point lead on Thursday.

They face Liverpool in the final match of this week’s fixtures.

The pressure is rising for ailing Tottenham boss Thomas Frank, who saw his side lose 3-2 against Bournemouth, where Antoine Semenyo gave the perfect leaving gift with a last-gasp winner.

It was a humiliating night for Frank as he was pictured drinking from a cup with Arsenal’s club badge on it.

On an exciting night in the Premier League, Newcastle won a seven-goal thriller, Chelsea lost at Fulham under the watching eye of new boss Liam Rosenior, Brentford beat Sunderland, Everton drew with Wolves and there was a goalless draw between Crystal Palace and Aston Villa.
