Furious Micky van de Ven in altercation with Tottenham fan moments after defeat

Micky van de Ven was involved in a tense exchange with a Tottenham fan following Wednesday’s 3-2 defeat at Bournemouth.

Spurs slipped to their eighth league defeat of the season at the Vitality Stadium as the pressure ramped up another notch on boss Thomas Frank.

Antoine Semenyo’s winner in the fifth minute of added time sparked fury among the already disgruntled away support.

The Dutch defender was riled up himself after seeing a 75th-minute penalty overturned by VAR, resulting in him receiving a yellow card for simulation.

Post-match unrest

The full-time whistle was greeted with boos from the travelling Tottenham supporters with Van de Ven one of the few players walk towards the away section.

But as the defender got within close range of the stand, he gestured at a fan while uttering what appeared to be a few choice words.

Match Stats

The Dutchman continued his tirade as he was ushered away by a member of the club’s staff.

The exchange typifies the current mood at the club with Tottenham slumped in 13th in the table with 28 points from 21 games.

There is growing frustration around the club with the bulk of it aimed at the Tottenham boss.

Pedro Porro recently called out sections of the fanbase for their treatment of goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario following a high-profile error against Fulham.

Meanhile, Frank’s evening on the south coast ended as well as it started after the Spurs boss was inexplicably pictured holding an Arsenal-branded cup.

In what was undoubtedly a PR disaster for the Dane, the scene was set for what was to come.

Mathys Tel’s fifth-minute opener for Spurs was cancelled out by Evanilson before Eli Junior Kroupi put Andoni Iraola’s side in front.

Tottenham thought they had rescued a point through Joao Palhinha 14 minutes from time, but Semenyo’s superb 20-yard strike sealed the points for the Cherries in what could be his final game for the club.

Frank’s assessment of the defeat

Speaking to talkSPORT at full time, Frank expressed his disappointment at the defeat and claimed his side deserved much more for their endeavour.

“That hurts massively,” the Spurs boss said.

“The players worked so hard. We started so well but conceded two goals. On the second one we need to do much better.

“In the second half, I really liked our character and mentality.

“We hit the inside of the post then had an overturned penalty. We had a big chance to make it 3-2 then to concede with five minutes of added time is devastating.

“That’s margins in football, unfortunately.”

Asked his thoughts on the chorus of boos from the Tottenham fans at full time, Frank said: “I think the away fans were very good, they backed us throughout the game.

“I think all involved at Tottenham are devastated after the game, that a performance like that doesn’t give us at least a point or three points.

“I’m disappointed, so I understand that other people will be disappointed.

And there could be further woes for Frank and his side after Lucas Bergvall was replaced in the second half after picking an injury.

The Swede could join Mohammed Kudus on the sidelines after the Ghanaian picked up an injury in last weekend’s draw against Sunderland.

Frank described Bergvall’s injury as ‘not good’ while conceding that Kudus could be out of action for longer than initially feared
