Frustrated Maxx Crosby shoves injured Justin Herbert to ground as Raiders dismal 22-year record continues

Maxx Crosby couldn’t contain his emotions during the Las Vegas Raiders’ 31-14 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday.

The superstar defensive end was dealt an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty after shoving Chargers‘ quarterback Justin Herbert in the chest.

Crosby has been leading the Raiders for years, but he could do very little as his side was comfortably beaten by the Bolts, which leaves 2-10 for the season and languishing at the bottom of the AFC West once again.

Crosby’s frustration was there for all to see when he shoved Herbert and cost his team a 15-yard penalty.

This helped Los Angeles end the drive with a touchdown.

But the punishment might not stop there, as it’s likely that he will be fined by the league.

The NFL will review flagged plays from Week 13 and later announce decisions on potential fines.

Penalties for unsportsmanlike conduct often result in fines.

To be fair to Crosby, Herbert was celebrating a bit too close to the 28-year-old before he was pushed to the ground.

“It’s an emotional game, and I’ve got nothing but respect for him as a player and as a teammate,” Herbert said on the incident.

“But at the end of the day, I could have kept my cool a little bit better, too.”

Raiders miss the playoffs… again

While the Chargers look set to make the postseason, the Raiders were officially ruled out of playoff contention with their recent loss.

talkSPORT reacts... the Raiders are simply awful

When Raiders head coach Pete Carroll joined the franchise ahead of this season, there was reason for optimism in Las Vegas.

Instead, it’s been nothing short of a disaster as Carroll has gone 2-10 for the first time in his coaching career, and the team is out of playoff contention after 13 weeks.

The Raiders are so bad that they were showered with boos after they lost to the Cleveland Browns 24-10 last weekend.

This will be the Raiders’ fourth consecutive losing season, and this campaign has been one of the worst, as they’ve been held to 10 or fewer points six times this season.

Carroll has had nine NFL seasons with at least 10 wins, but not even he could turn this dismal Las Vegas team around.

Las Vegas haven’t made the postseason since 2023, and perhaps the most shocking statistic of them all, has not won a playoff game since 2003.

So it means the 22-year drought for a playoff win will continue into next year.

Crosby has made the playoffs just once since being drafted in 2019. He played in one postseason game in the 2021 season, a 26-19 wild-card round loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.

It doesn’t get any easier for the Raiders either — their next game is divisional clash against the 10-2 Denver Broncos.

Herbert suffers injury during Chargers’ win

Falling to the ground was the least of Herbert’s problems on Sunday.

As he was also dealt a break in his left that will require surgery.

Herbert will have the procedure on Monday, but doesn’t expect to miss the Chargers’ next game, which is the Philadelphia Eagles on Dec. 8.

“It’s one of those things where you just stabilized it, and I’m not the doctor, unfortunately, but they were hopeful,” Herbert said.

“So, I think that’s a good thing.”

The injury came when Raiders safety Jermey Chinn’s helmet seemed to connect directly with Herbert’s left hand in the first quarter.

It didn’t seem to affect the 27-year-old too much as he threw a touchdown to reciever Quentin Johnston on the next play.

Herbert finished the game 15-of-20 with 151 passing yards, two passing touchdowns and an interception.
