Fox host calls out NFL insider for ‘wildly misleading’ Travis Kelce mistake
Ian Rapoport sent the NFL world into a frenzy on Monday.
The NFL Network insider posted on Monday that the Kansas City Chiefs had officially signed Travis Kelce to a three-year contract worth $54.7 million, with up to $3 million in incentives.

It was long-known before the post that Kelce was returning to the Chiefs in 2026, despite rumors of a stunning switch to join the New York Giants.
While Rapoport’s information is technically correct, there was almost no chance that Kelce will receive the full contract valuation the post suggests.
Kelce’s new deal is said to have a genius loophole.
In reality, the agreement is structured as a one-year, $12m deal with another $3m in incentives. The additional years are included for cap purposes, and should Kelce want to play on in 2027, it will be renegotiated.
Most took it as a simple errant mistake by one of the sport’s leading insiders. But Fox Sports host Nick Wright let loose on Rapoport’s error.
“I’ve had dinner with this guy [Rapoport]. I share an agent with this guy. I have nothing against him personally. Much the opposite,” Wright said on “What’s Wright” podcast.
“But Ian Rapoport’s tweet about Travis Kelce’s contract… this is now the second time in a couple weeks that Rapoport has, via his very popular and followed twitter account, blatantly misformed the public.”
Wright adds that while contracts can be very confusing, Rapoport shouldn’t be posting misleading information fed by agents in order to get favors.
“It cannot be up to $57 million. It can’t be,” Wright added.
“If you’re going to consider yourself a reporter, and your job is to inform the public about news, then you cannot willingly put out intentionally wildly misleading information because you want the guy who runs Milk & Honey Sports to owe you a favor.”
The other report Wright made reference to was about the value the Detroit Lions received in trading running back David Montgomery to the Houston Texans.

Rapoport was community noted by X for claiming that a package of a fourth-round pick, a seventh round pick, and a reserve offensive lineman equaled ‘fifth-round value.’
The story was murky when released by the NFL Network as the news Kelce had signed a three-year deal turned heads, given the fact he was once again contemplating retirement.
Kelce will be reuniting with former offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy in Kansas City as the Chiefs look to bounce back from their disappointing 2025 campaign.
Kansas City lost Patrick Mahomes to a torn ACL and LCL in Week 15 of the season, and despite the QB claiming he will be ready for Week 1 of the 2026 season, the Chiefs have added an insurance policy just in case.
Kansas City acquired Justin Fields from the New York Jets earlier this month, with the plan for him to be Mahomes’ backup when Showtime returns.
Fields landed with the Jets before the 2025 season but was benched by Week 8 following an 0-7 start to the season.

To add to the drama, the Chiefs are scheduled to face the Jets at home at some point during the season, meaning Fields could get a shot to start against his former team.
All will be revealed when the schedules are released. As for Fields, he’ll be hoping Kansas City is the destination where he can revive his once promising career after failed stints in Chicago, Pittsburgh and New York.
