Football postponements this week: Bad weather and snow affects games in England and Scotland

The cold weather in Great Britain continues to impact the football fixture lists with games in Scotland and England being cancelled.

Temperatures across the United Kingdom have plummeted since the new year, and a swathe of EFL matches were abandoned at the weekend due to frozen pitches.

The snow and ice are causing havoc for teams up and down the land

There is no round of EFL fixtures this midweek, but there is a full Premier League matchweek.

There are also games in non-league and Scotland while the FA Cup third round takes centre-stage this weekend.

As it stands, none of the Premier League games are in danger of being postponed.

That should remain the case, barring any heavy snow fall, due to the undersoil heaters at all top-flight grounds.

However, in the Scottish Premiership, we are one game down with Livingston’s match against St Mirren being suspended due to a frozen pitch.

In a statement, they said: “Game off. After today’s pitch inspection, tonight’s William Hill Premiership tie with St Mirren has been postponed due to a frozen pitch. Details of the rearranged fixture will be released in due course.”

Rangers‘ home game versus Aberdeen is still set to go ahead.

But in the National League North, Scarborough Athletic’s home tie against Hereford has gone, while in the National League South, Enfield Town against Hampton & Richmond has gone and Maidenhead United versus Ebbsfleet is also off.

Elsewhere in the National League North, Macclesfield FC are hosting Radcliffe before their huge FA Cup tie against Crystal Palace at the weekend.

And there is a pitch inspection at 3:30pm to determine if that one will go ahead.

The club have pleaded for fans to come down and help clear the snow to get the match on.

In a statement, they said: “A pitch inspection will take place at 3:30pm this afternoon ahead of tonight’s Enterprise National League North fixture against Radcliffe to determine whether the game can go ahead.

“We are therefore reissuing our plea to supporters and the local community to help clear the pitch of snow.

“Great progress has already been made and temperatures are set to rise, but further support with clearing the pitch today would be greatly appreciated by everyone at Macclesfield FC.

“Any tools and/or machinery which can be provided to assist with the process would also be very welcomed.”

Meanwhile, being near the coast has helped Eastbourne Borough massively because their game against Horsham is set to go ahead.

The club haven’t released anything about a pitch inspection, so it looks all good for that National League South match to take place.

This weekend sees the FA Cup third round take place and with cold temperatures set to continue, there could be more postponements to come.
