Floyd Mayweather set worrying deadline by Manny Pacquiao’s team over rematch contract chaos
Floyd Mayweather has been issued a deadline of this week to clarify that he will take on Manny Pacquiao in a professional rematch.
It was announced that Mayweather and Pacquiao would meet in a stunning blockbuster commercial rematch on September 18 in Las Vegas’ Sphere.

But a row has broken out between the teams, after Mayweather publicly declared that the bout was an exhibition, with the venue still uncertain from his side of the deal.
Pacquiao’s team had suggested that the interest was only made official for a sequel because of the American’s desire to risk his professional record.
As a result, the Filipino icon’s team declared that Mayweather is at risk of breaching a binding agreement between the two parties.
And now, CEO of his promotional outfit Jas Mathur has suggested he must provide written confirmation or potential legal action could be opened.
He told Boxing Scene: “Everything from the beginning has been for a real fight. He’s in breach right now.
“He has to provide written confirmation by tomorrow that he has intent to cure it, and there’s a certain amount of time, there’s multiple breaches across the board.
“This fight is not canceled. Floyd Mayweather is in breach of his contract. There’s been no request by anybody to cancel it.
“Manny is not happy, he’s been looking for this rematch. Nobody ever got a contract, and Netflix stepping up as a media empire holds a lot of weight.
“It reassured Manny this was real. They put the stamp on this. He’s obviously displeased. He wants to fight Floyd.
“He does not want an exhibition. Has no interest in that because it was never part of the conversation. Neither does Netflix.

“The fight will not take place as a pure exhibition under the contract and terms and platform we are partnered in today.”
It is clear the bout is in jeopardy for now, but if Mayweather reaches a new agreement, all systems could well be go.
Mayweather’s conundrum
The American hasn’t fought competitively since notching up 50 professional wins with victory over Conor McGregor in 2017.
He is now 49-years-old, but has fought in a series of lucrative exhibitions in recent years including against Logan Paul.
Consistently Mayweather has insisted he won’t risk his unbeaten streak, even if the lure of a rematch with Pacquiao was on the line.
But it appeared he caved in with the announcement, combined with his own social media seemingly confirming his professional U-turn.

However he insists it will be an active year without any sanctioned contests, with deals also on the table to fight Mike Tyson and most recently Mike Zambidis.
