Floyd Mayweather in danger of Manny Pacquiao contract breach as clash breaks out over fight rules

Floyd Mayweather could well break the terms of his fight contract with Manny Pacquiao.

That would be if their huge rematch on September 18 plotted for Las Vegas’ Sphere on Netflix, is not a professionally sanctioned contest.

It was originally announced that the pair would meet in an authentic bout, with Mayweather’s perfect 50-0 record to be at stake.

Pacquiao even made a threat to the American that he wants revenge for their 2015 encounter and wants to snatch the ‘Zero’.

But in a surprise interview, Mayweather boldly declared that the event was nothing more than an exhibition.

He then claimed that it was not yet set in stone to take place at the icon $1 billion Sphere.

But Jas Mathur, CEO of Pacquiao Promotions, has lashed back at Mayweather’s comments.

In multiple statements to media, he suggested that Mayweather was lying and that a binding contractual agreement is in place.

It is also suggested that should Mayweather choose to backtrack on the agreement, he would then be in breach of contract.

Mathur tweeted: “Men lie, women lie, executed binding agreements don’t.”

And if Mayweather is to not make a professional return, the bout could well collapse with ‘Money’ facing potential legal action from Pacquiao’s team.

The Filipino icon was only largely so interested in the sequel if it was professionally sanctioned, given he has made a full return.

Mayweather even himself announced on social media that he would be making a full return.

But the late chaos will become an increasing concern, the longer that ticks on with the bout scheduled for five months time.

Mayweather’s plan for 2026

Mayweather himself, despite seemingly signing a deal, is instead adamant he will go on an exhibition tour.

The American was signed to face heavyweight legend Mike Tyson, but the most recent update suggests the bout is in doubt.

More than likely he will first face Greek kickboxing legend Mike Zambidis in June in what is an official exhibition.

But the boxing world is unlikely to let him forego his seeming contracted duty to step back in as a pro at the age of 49.

If the rematch does go ahead, it will likely be boxing’s biggest commercial event of the year.

Frameworks are understood to already be in place with fighters even being considered already for the undercard.
