Enzo Maresca pulls out of his post-match interviews after Chelsea draw with Bournemouth

Enzo Maresca did not conduct media interviews following Chelsea’s 2-2 draw with Bournemouth due to illness.

The Blues head coach was due to speak after his side had to settle for a point against the Cherries at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night.

However, shortly before he was set to reflect on the match, it was revealed that Maresca was feeling unwell.

Instead, it’s his assistant Willy Caballero who has been conducting duties in west London.

Caballero gives update on Maresca

“He didn’t feel well in the last two days,” Caballero revealed. “He had a temperature two days ago.

“After the game, he went to the changing room and he asked me to replace him because he didn’t feel well.”

Caballero was then asked if he will be in charge against Manchester City on Sunday, like he was against Villa amid Maresca’s suspension.

“I don’t know,” he said. “I just wish for the recovery of Enzo. I believe in one or two days, he will be okay.”

The draw against Bournemouth means Chelsea have won only one of their last seven Premier League fixtures.

Fan frustration was audible during the second half when Cole Palmer was substituted for Joao Pedro.

Palmer has only recently returned to regular minutes after a groin injury, but some of the Blues faithful questioned his substitution.

On the boos, Caballero said: “Of course, any supporter wants to have their best players on the pitch and so do we.

“But Cole is coming from a long injury so in this case we need to find a way to find the right subs for the game and also to take care of our players because we didn’t have him for a long period.”

Chelsea and Bournemouth played out a dull 0-0 in the reverse fixture earlier in the month.

But the clash at Stamford Bridge was the polar opposite, and it was the visitors who took the lead inside six minutes via David Brooks.

Palmer brought Chelsea level with a penalty before Enzo Fernandez rifled an effort into the top corner to turn the match on its head.

However, the Blues didn’t deal with a long throw for a second time and allowed Justin Kluivert to net for Bournemouth.

After their trip to City, Chelsea face west London neighbours Fulham ahead of an FA Cup tie away to Charlton Athletic.
