Ellie Scotney makes British boxing history with points win in electrifying bout as she banks car from Jake Paul

Ellie Scotney defeated Mayelli Flores at Olympia’s National Hall in London on Sunday to make British boxing history.

Scotney’s unanimous decision victory makes her the UK’s youngest undisputed champion, male or female, in the four-belt era, having now added the WBA strap to her collection at super bantamweight.

Two judges scored the contest 100-90 in favour of the Catford, south-east London, native, while a third ruled it 96-94.

“I can’t tell you how much of a hard fight that was. She was non-stop from the first bell,” an emotional Scotney said after her win.

“I gave everything tonight.”

Josh Taylor became Britain’s first undisputed world champion in the four-belt era when he defeated Jose Ramirez in 2021 at the age of 30.

But Scotney, who signed for MVP in April last year as the unified WBO and IBF super bantamweight champion, has now achieved the feat at 28, beating Flores over ten rounds in what was an action-packed contest from start to finish.

Scotney vs Flores – what happened?

Scotney was forced to keep her distance in an electric opening round, as Flores put her foot on the gas immediately in an attempt to score an early stoppage.

The Briton, however, looked very comfortable on the back foot, working her jab while landing some nice combinations early doors.

The game plan for Flores was evidently to try and get Scotney out early as she hunted down her opponent from the off in round two, showing signs of danger with her left hand.

Scotney remained composed and landed a clean left hand like a prime Muhammad Ali after dodging the Mexican’s onslaught.

The pace remained off the charts in the following rounds, with Scotney bobbing and weaving around Flores, who was non-stop with her forward pressure.

Flores began going low, but both women were finding success in what was quickly developing into a fight of the year contender.

The away fighter had her brightest spell of the bout in round six, as she pinned Scotney against the ropes and began unloading hooks.

However, Scotney, who knew she needed to avoid getting dragged into Flores’ dog fight, got herself out quick and landed two massive right hands to assert her dominance.

It was unmissable action for the remainder of the fight, as Flores, to her credit, was relentless with her pressure and kept coming forward, even after Scotney stunned her with a huge right.

Scotney kept avoiding taking any major damage from Flores as time ticked on and it felt like she was well ahead with only two rounds to go.

She continued to make Flores miss and pieced the Mexican’s guard more than once with deadly uppercuts.

With only moments left, Flores was still somehow coming forward, but Scotney, as she had done all night, utilised her jab to keep her opponent at bay and see out a comfortable points win.

The bout acted as the chief support to Caroline Dubois’ WBC and WBO lightweight unification clash against Terri Harper as part of Jake Paul‘s Most Valuable Promotions UK debut, officially billed as MVPW01.

Undefeated 27-year-old Scotney defeated Yamileth Mercado on her MVP debut to become the unified WBC, WBO and IBF super-bantamweight champion.

She won her first world title by overcoming Cherneka Johnson in 2023, before snatching the WBO belt from Segolene Lefebvre in Manchester one year later and defending her titles against Mea Motu.

And the Lewisham fighter continued the momentum in London by defeating Flores.

Through her victory, Scotney also bagged herself a brand spanking new car from boss Paul, who promised the Briton, who is still yet to get her driving licence, a motor in the build-up to the fight if she was victorious.

Scotney looked down the camera when speaking after her impressive victory and told the American she fancied a G-Wagon.

When Jake Paul promised Scotney a car

She had left Paul shocked in the build-up to her win over Flores when she revealed her extensive transport methods to get to and from the gym each day for training.

“I get two trains, a tube and a bus,” she said on Sky Sports Boxing.

Paul responded: “Why?”

And Scotney added: “Because I can’t drive!

“I’m going to be the first person to be undisputed, that’s not got a driving license or a stoppage at the minute…

“I have this rule: the more fights I’m having, I’m pushing the week back, so I allow myself to have an Uber from five weeks out.

“You’ve gotta stay humble! I keep saying next camp, next camp, Shane [McGuigan] has teased about potentially moving, so I’m gonna have to get my driver’s license.”

Paul responded to the video on Instagram, saying: “If she wins imma buy her a car.”

Elsewhere on the card, Irma Garcia dropped Emma Dolan three times en route to defending her IBF super flyweight champion title.

The referee stopped the contest one minute and 23 seconds into round three after the Norfolk fighter’s corner threw in the towel.

Northampton’s Chantelle Cameron, meanwhile, got the better of Michaela Kotaskova to claim the WBO super welterweight title.

The 34-year-old largely dominated her Czech opponent over ten rounds to score a convincing unanimous victory.
