EFL leaders’ clash delayed due to weather with new kick-off time announced

Stevenage’s League One clash with Cardiff City has been delayed due to adverse weather conditions.

The two sides had been due to kick-off at 7:45pm on Tuesday in a top of the table clash.

However, the home side announced the match had been pushed back by quarter of an hour.

As a result, the match at the Lamex Stadium will now begin at 8pm.

Stevenage statement

In a statement shared on X, Stevenage said: “Tonight’s kick-off has been delayed until 8pm due to adverse weather conditions affecting travel for away supporters.”

The decision to delay kick-off also saw the team news pushed back by 15 minutes by both clubs.

Cardiff are set to be backed by 1,300 travelling supporters at the 7,318-capacity ground.

Brian Barry-Murphy’s side head into the match a point clear at the top of League One.

However, the Bluebirds also have a game in hand on second place Bradford City.

Their title rivals are not in action on Tuesday, though, after their trip to Port Vale was postponed.

The pitch at Vale Park was deemed unplayable earlier in the day due to the effects of Storm Bram.

Winds of up to 90mph and heavy rain has wreaked havoc on parts of the country this week.

Cardiff’s clash with Stevenage is set to go ahead as planned, though, despite the delay to kick-off.

It presents the latter with the chance to leapfrog Bradford into the automatic promotion places.

Stevenage head into the visit of the league leaders in third place.

A win would see them move above the Bantams on goal difference and just a point behind their opponents.

The Boro are chasing a first-ever promotion to the Championship in their third season back at this level.

In their 49-year history, their highest-ever finish came in the 2011/12 season as they finished sixth in League One.

Meanwhile, Cardiff are on track for an immediate return to the second tier.

It follows relegation last season, which saw the club drop into the third tier for the first time in 22 years.
