‘Don’t have the answers’ – Erling Haaland issues apology in brutally honest interview
Erling Haaland could only apologise as he endured a homecoming to forget.
Manchester City’s hopes for a top eight finish in the Champions League took a major blow as they lost 3-1 to Norwegian side Bodo/Glimt – handing last season’s Europa League semi-finalists their first ever Champions League win.

The shock result marked the seventh match from City’s last eight in which Haaland failed to score, as Rayan Cherki bagged the visitors’ consolation on Tuesday.
Haaland’s worrying run isn’t for a lack of trying, as the superstar fired off three shots against Bodo/Glimt.
However, none of those were on target.
Given the Norwegian ace has netted 26 times across all competitions this season, his mini-drought is uncharacteristic.
Speaking to TNT Sports after the match, Haaland was unable to put his finger on what’s behind City’s slump as he could only hold his hands up and apologise for the limp display.
“I don’t have the answers,” Haaland said.
“Again, I take full responsibility for not being able to score the goals I should do.
“I apologise to everyone, to every single Man City supporter and every single supporter that travelled today.
“In the end, it’s embarrassing. I mean, Bodo played some incredible football and it’s deserved.
“I don’t know what to say because I don’t have the answers.”

Although City were missing 11 senior stars through a mix of illness, injury, suspension or being ineligible due to UEFA squad rules, Haaland felt the more senior members of the squad who featured against Bodo/Glimt should have done more.
“I take full responsibility, together with Rodri, Gigio [Donnarumma], Tijjani [Reijnders], us experienced players, I don’t want to blame anyone but we need to take more responsibility,” Haaland said.
“In the end, it’s not good enough. We’re Man City, we can’t go around and not win games. It shouldn’t be like this.”
Rodri had a game to forget as he was sent for an early shower in the 62nd minute having picked up two yellow cards, both of which were issued in the space of 53 seconds.
As for Donnarumma, he was beaten five times on the night but luckily for City two of those were ruled out for offside.
The defeat against Bodo/Glimt, which marked the first time an English side had been beaten by a Norwegian outfit since October 2002, continued a worrying run of form for City.

Since the turn of the new year, City have won just twice across all competitions.
One of those victories was against League One club Exeter City, who they demolished 10-1 in the third round of the FA Cup.
City’s only other win in 2026 was a 2-0 win over Newcastle in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final.
Pep Guardiola’s side will look to secure their first three points of the calendar year on Saturday when they host last-placed Wolves, who are unbeaten in their last five across all competitions.
