The Florida Panthers acquired goaltender Vitek Vanecek from the San Jose Sharks on Wednesday in alternate for ahead Patrick Giles.
The commerce comes someday after the Sharks held Vanecek out of the lineup for trade-related causes.
By buying Vanecek, the Panthers are offering depth behind two-time Vezina Trophy recipient Sergei Bobrovsky. The staff traded backup Spencer Knight and a first-round choose within the 2026 NHL Draft to the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday in alternate for defenseman Seth Jones and a fourth-round choice in 2026.
Vanecek, 29, owns a 3-10-3 document with a 3.88 goals-against common and .882 save proportion in 18 video games (17 begins) this season. He’s a pending unrestricted free agent this summer season.
Vanecek is 94-52-20 with a 2.82 GAA and .903 SP in 181 profession video games (169 begins) with the Washington Capitals, New Jersey Devils and Sharks.
Giles, 25, has seven factors (5 targets, two assists) in 39 video games with Charlotte of the American Hockey League. He has but to notch some extent in 9 video games with the Panthers.
