Chelsea vs Everton predictions and betting tips – Blues to return to winning ways?

Chelsea have not won any of their last three Premier League games, a run which has put a dent in their title chances. They will be looking to get back on track when Everton visit Stamford Bridge.

David Moyes’s men are in fine form, though, so this will not be an easy game for the Blues. Who will triumph in west London?

Chelsea vs Everton predictions

It is only around 10 days since Chelsea were on a high following a 1-1 draw with Arsenal. Enzo Maresca’s men had to play with 10 men for more than half of that match, yet they were arguably the better team against the Premier League leaders.

Positivity has been in short supply over the last week and a half, however. After a 3-1 defeat by Leeds United and 0-0 draw with Bournemouth back home, Chelsea were beaten 2-1 by Atalanta in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

Maresca made five changes to his team in Bergamo, a decision which ultimately backfired after his side threw away a 1-0 lead to suffer their second defeat in the league phase. The result put a severe dent in Chelsea’s chances of qualifying for the round of 16 automatically.

They have also fallen back in the title race. Perhaps Chelsea should never have been seen as contenders for the prize, but their gutsy showing in that draw with Arsenal raised hopes that they might be able to challenge.

However, there were virtually no positives to take from the loss to Leeds at Elland Road, as Maresca himself admitted in his post-match press conference, while Chelsea were also far from their best in that goalless draw with Bournemouth last time out.

The west Londoners are now eight points adrift of top spot. That is not an insurmountable deficit, but it means Chelsea would have to be consistently excellent from now until the end of the season in order to finish first.

A lack of consistency remains this team’s primary shortcoming. To an extent it is understandable given Maresca has the youngest side in the division, but that did not happen because of misfortune.

Indeed, Chelsea have deliberately pursued a transfer strategy which eschews experience. There are certainly advantages to a youth-focused recruitment policy, but there are drawbacks too – and we are seeing some of them now.

A top-four finish in the Premier League and another trophy, perhaps the FA Cup or EFL Cup, would represent a decent enough season for Chelsea. But fans will want to see progress and Chelsea are still struggling to shed their reputation for unreliability.

Chelsea vs Everton betting tips

Chelsea and Everton are ready to go head-to-head at 3pm on Saturday.

Everton can get something

Chelsea will not be in for an easy game on Saturday. Over the last five rounds of fixtures, only Aston Villa have collected more points than Everton, who have won four of those matches.

David Moyes’s men are difficult to play against. In each of those four aforementioned victories, Everton have kept a clean sheet. Chelsea will find them tough to break down here.

The Blues’s confidence levels have doubtless dropped after disappointing results against Leeds, Bournemouth and Atalanta.

Chelsea have not become a bad team overnight, and they are unlikely to suffer defeat this weekend, but Everton can get something in this one.

Goals at both ends

Everton’s recent defensive record is excellent and Moyes has implored his team to keep going in that respect.

“If we’re going to be any way successful, whether that be whatever part of the league it is, we’re going to have to get clean sheets and we’ve suddenly started to get a few now, which is really pleasing,” he said after the 3-0 victory over Nottingham Forest last time out.

However, Everton’s backline will be put under strain here. Chelsea have scored in 21 of their last 22 matches in all competitions, and they are bound to do so this weekend.

At the same time, Everton have the quality in the final third to deny the hosts a clean sheet. With Jack Grealish, Iliman Ndiaye and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall all set to start, there is no doubt that Everton will carry a threat going forward.

Dewsbury-Hall one to watch

Dewsbury-Hall has arguably been Everton’s standout performer so far this season.

Aside from the Conference League, the midfielder barely got a look in at Chelsea last term. It was no surprise to see him move on in the summer.

Dewsbury-Hall is benefitting from regular minutes in this Everton side. He has been deployed in a deeper berth recently, but Idrissa Gueye’s return from suspension means he will probably be given a more attacking role on Saturday.

No Everton player has scored more goals this term than Dewsbury-Hall, who will not be short of motivation against his former club.
