Brock Purdy start or sit: Week 17 fantasy football advice

Week 17 of the 2025 NFL season will continue on this afternoon with a high-stakes NFC showdown featuring the Chicago Bears visiting the San Francisco 49ers 8:20 p.m. ET on NBC. Both of these teams are still in contention for the No. 1 seed in the conference and would be knocked out of contention for that distinction with a loss here.

The Niners clinched themselves a playoff spot with a 48-27 victory over the Colts last Sunday and have the inside track to both the NFC West title and the No. 1 seed in the NFC should they win out. They got a huge performance out of Brock Purdy, who appears to be dialed in as they close out the regular season campaign.

Below, we’ll go over Purdy’s outlook in fantasy football for Week 17.

Fantasy Football analysis: 49ers QB Brock Purdy

Purdy diced up the Colts in what was his best performance of the season last week, throwing for 295 passing yards with a career-high five touchdowns to just one interception in the blowout victory on the road. That certainly pleased fantasy managers who started him as he finished as the No. 1 fantasy QB for Week 16 with 31.9 points.

The former Mr. Irrelevant’s season has been defined by injuries, but he’s starting to round into form with a combined 590 passing yards and eight touchdowns over the last two weeks. Even though he’s missed a significant chunk of the campaign, he does have enough of a sample size to compare him to other starting QB’s around the league and his numbers encouraging for San Francisco fans dreaming of another deep playoff run. Among QB’s with at least 250 plays this year, Purdy ranks No. 1 in both EPA per play and success rate while only trailing Caleb Williams in average time to throw. He has been effective at moving the chains while keeping the Niners offense on schedule and that’s something that you want to see this late in the year.

Start or sit in Week 17?

Start. Purdy has been lights out over the past few weeks and with everything that was just mentioned, the green light is on for him to lead your fantasy lineup into the championship round.
