Brighton v West Ham prediction
The Seagulls go into the fixture as clear favourites on home soil, though they must shake off the disappointment of their midweek loss to Aston Villa if they are to claim all three points.
Fabian Hurzeler’s men let a 2-0 lead slip on Wednesday, eventually falling 4-3 to an impressive Villa side – a result that halted their run of 10 points from the previous four league outings.
That defeat was Brighton’s first at home since early April, but they will still take encouragement from having won three of their last four matches in front of their supporters, which has taken them to seventh in the Premier League table, just two points off the top four.
West Ham travel to the south coast having pieced together a much-improved spell of form after a poor start to the season in which they were beaten in eight of their opening ten fixtures. They have since lost only once in their last five.
However, midweek results did not favour Nuno Espírito Santo’s team. Wins for both Leeds and Nottingham Forest pushed the Hammers back into the relegation zone, where they now sit two points adrift of safety.
Despite suffering only one defeat in five games, West Ham arrive in Sussex without a win in their last three and have found life difficult away from home, managing just a single victory in eight league trips this campaign.
Their recent away performances have shown improvement, though, earning draws at both Bournemouth and Manchester United – teams known for strong home records.
Historically, the Hammers have struggled in this fixture, winning only one of their 16 meetings with Brighton since the Seagulls joined the Premier League in 2017.
On the touchline, however, Nuno has a positive record against Hurzeler, having won two of their three managerial encounters and drawn the other.
West Ham’s dismal record against Brighton won’t stand them in good stead, with the Seagulls no doubt wanting to get back to winning ways after their midweek defeat and in pursuit of the top four, who are well within touching distance – I’m predicting a 3-1 home win.
