‘Big opportunity’ – Harry Kane gives update on Bayern Munich future amid Premier League interest
Harry Kane has revealed that discussions over a contract extension at Bayern Munich are set to happen.
The England captain’s deal with the German giants expires in the summer of 2027, and there is a release clause in the deal that expires at the end of this month.

But despite the fact it appears no one will attempt to trigger the clause in January, that hasn’t stopped rumours about his future.
Premier League teams have been linked with making a big summer play for Kane.
Tottenham Hotspur could attempt to bring their legendary striker back, with boss Thomas Frank opening the door for Kane to make a return earlier this season, but the noises from Kane over the last few months have dampened those prospects.
The 32-year-old could become the all-time top Premier League goalscorer, given he is currently second on the list behind Alan Shearer.
But none of that is his focus right now as he looks to have a successful season with Bayern.
Kane won the first senior trophy of his career last term with the Bundesliga title, and he wants more.
Bayern have a good chance of winning the Bundesliga again and the Champions League.
And though Kane has admitted talks will happen, he wants to focus on the resumption of the season after the winter break.
Speaking at a fan event, he said: “Yeah, it is possible for sure. 100 per cent. These are conversations that need to be held, like I spoke on before the winter break as well.
“And I am sure they will happen, but my focus right now is on this season. There is a big opportunity. There is no place I’d rather be right now.”

What’s next for Kane?
When reports emerged about Kane’s release clause, it appeared it could be a case of when not if he left.
But Bayern Munich‘s honorary president Uli Hoeness revealed in 2025 that the clause expired in January.
The fee required to trigger the clause is £57million, which is hard to see anyone doing during the winter transfer window.
And when asked about Hoeness said: “He (Harry Kane) has a release clause every year until the end of January.
“We assume that he will definitely fulfil his contract until 2027. And if it were up to us – and I’ve heard it’s up to him too – then he’ll extend it.
“His family is very happy. In Munich, you can still go about your business in peace.

“Harry Kane only ever worked with bodyguards back home (in London). I don’t necessarily need that kind of life.”
And Kane’s stance on staying in Germany has been pretty clear, as he said in October 2025: “In terms of staying longer I could definitely see that.”
He also poured cold water on any potential Premier League return, saying: “In terms of the Premier League, I don’t know.
“If you had asked me when I first left to go to Bayern, I would have said for sure I would come back. Now I have been there a couple of years I would probably say that has gone down a little bit, but I wouldn’t say I would never go back.”
Since his £100million move from Spurs to Bayern, Kane has scored 115 goals in 121 games for the club.
This season so far, the striker has 30 in all competitions for Vincent Kompany‘s men.
