Bengals’ Joe Burrow drops historic truth bomb on Shedeur Sanders ‘microscope’

There’s a certain pressure that comes with being a quarterback. Joe Burrow knows that well. Drafted first overall by the Cincinnati Bengals in 2020, the star quarterback has been scrutinized heavily throughout his career. Even just this season, Burrow’s somber press conference raised a lot of questions about his commitment to the Bengals.

It’s easy to see, then, why Burrow empathizes with Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders. Ahead of their final matchup of the season, the Bengals quarterback talked about his counterpart. Burrow said that Sanders’ handling of the media pressure was something to be praised.

“He’s certainly been under more of a microscope than any other 5th-round pick that has ever been in the history of football, and every clip that I see he seems to be handling it well,” Burrow said in a press conference, per Jordan Schultz.

Sanders has faced a different level of scrutiny than Burrow. While the Browns quarterback isn’t a first-round pick like Burrow, Sanders’ pre-draft hype and eventual fall have gotten the attention of the media. The young quarterback’s confidence was also a magnet for more inciting questions from reporters. Even before Sanders made his first official start late in the season, the rookie got more attention than the Bengals quarterback did in his rookie year.

Both the Bengals and the Browns have already been eliminated from playoff contention. For Cincinnati, Burrow’s injury early this season hurt their chances, and his return late in the season wasn’t enough to buoy their chances. As for Cleveland, the team got off to a rough start this season under Dillon Gabriel and they were never able to truly bounce back.

It will be interesting to see how Sanders matches up to Burrow in their first matchup against each other. Burow had a quiet game in the Bengals’ season opener against the Browns, recording just 113 yards and one touchdown,.
