Bayern Munich tracking League One star with Vincent Kompany tipped off by ex-assistant

Bayern Munich are keeping tabs on Cardiff teenage sensation Dylan Lawlor, talkSPORT understands.

Lawlor, who turns 20 on New Year’s Day, has already won three senior Wales caps and is seen as a key player for the future by international boss Craig Bellamy.

Premier League scouts have been flocking to South Wales to watch the cultured defender play in League One.

But Bayern boss Vincent Kompany is believed to have been put on the scent by Wales boss Bellamy.

The ex-Manchester City winger played alongside the Belgian and was also his assistant manager at Burnley.

Bellamy was in the crowd when Cardiff lost 3-1 to Chelsea in last week’s EFL Cup quarter-final as Lawlor again impressed.

Lawlor became part of the Bluebirds’ academy aged seven and has now gone on to break into the first team.

He made his senior debut for his boyhoodclub in the FA Cup against Aston Villa earlier this year in February.

And since Brian Barry-Murphy became Cardiff boss this summer, the 19-year-old has become a crucial part of the side.

He’s played 16 of their 20 League One games so far this season, with Barry-Murphy’s men sat top of the table.

Lawlor has 23 first-team appearances to his name this year and appears to be going from strength to strength.

On the international stage, his maiden call-up came in June for Wales’ World Cup 2026 qualifying fixtures.

Bellamy then handed him his first start for his country in September, as he featured against Kazakhstan for the Dragons.

He starred in his debut appearance, playing the full 90 minutes and winning Player of the Match in a 1-0 win.

Lawlor then went on to start both of Wales’ qualifiers in November to help his nation secure a World Cup play-off spot.

Kompany’s inside source

Bayern boss Kompany is understood to be watching Lawlor after Bellamy gave him a nudge about his potential.

The pair played 36 times together at Man City from 2009 to 2011, before they formed a duo post-playing career.

They worked together at Belgian side Anderlecht, with Bellamy becoming Kompany’s assistant after a spell coaching the U21s.

After stepping away for a short period, the Welshman returned to Kompany’s side when he became Burnley manager.

The partnership remained for the legendary Premier League centre-back’s tenure at Turf Moor before he departed for Bayern.

Bellamy then became Wales manager in July 2024, just over a month after Kompany headed to the Bundesliga.

And now, after working with Lawlor and rating him highly, he’s been back in contact with his old friend to tip a huge transfer.
