The opening game of this weekend’s Premier League action is no doubt the standout one as well, with the two most in form teams in the league going head to head on Saturday lunchtime.

Arsenal will make the trip to the West Midlands as favourites for victory due to their five point lead at the top of the Premier League table, reinforced by their 2-0 win against Brentford in a London derby on Wednesday night.

Victory for Mikel Arteta’s side means they head into the weekend unbeaten in 18 matches in all competitions as they chase a first Premier League title since 2004.

The Gunners have, though, failed to win either of their last two matches on the road, being held to draws by both Sunderland and a 10-man Chelsea in their last two away games, which will leave them eager to get back to winning ways on Saturday.

Aston Villa head into the weekend as the Premier League’s most in form team, their 4-3 win at Brighton on Wednesday night, which saw them back from 2-0 down to earn their sixth consecutive victory in all competitions.

The victory on the south coast also saw Unai Emery’s side climb into the top three in the Premier League table for the first time this season, and now leaves them just a point behind Manchester City and know that victory on Saturday would take them within three points of top spot.

The Villans also have a formidable home record this season, winning of their last eight matches at Villa Park, where they’ve lost only once in the league since their first home game of last season back in August 2024, though that did come in defeat against Arsenal.

The Gunners have won three of their last four games at Villa Park and were, as alluded to, the only team to win there in the Premier League last season, though that was the north London’s side only win their last four games against the West Midlands side.

Emery will also take confidence in the knowledge that he has a winning record against his compatriot Arteta in across their seven managerial meetings, leading the head-to-head in wins 3-2.
