The New York Yankees may know that the job is far from over. But that doesn't mean that they can no longer celebrate the feat they achieved on Monday, when they clinched a spot in the 2026 MLB postseason after earning an 8-3 victory over the Minnesota Twins at home. They are at least guaranteed a spot in the AL Wild Card round, and that is an achievement well worth celebrating.

To that end, the Yankees wasted no time uncorking champagne bottles in the locker room as they look forward to mounting another challenge for the ever-elusive World Series title that they have not had a chance of hoisting since 2009.

The Yankees appear to be hitting their stride, and at exactly the right time too with the postseason right on the horizon. Aaron Judge, in particular, came alive on Monday. He hit a three-run home run to pad the Yankees' lead on Monday, and this was his first dinger since he came back from injury last week.

Moreover, the Yankees' pitching staff was on point, limiting the Twins to just one earned run on the night. Now, their defense needs work, as they committed two errors on the night. This proved to be their undoing in the 2024 World Series after all. But they have time to work on that anyway all while chasing the Tampa Bay Rays for the AL East crown.

With this latest victory, the Yankees are only 3.5 games behind the Rays in the AL East standings with 12 games to go in the regular season. Surpassing them in the standings is still a very doable goal for New York, and doing so should mean that they're guaranteed a spot in the ALDS by virtue of earning a bye.

Nonetheless, even if the Yankees fail to earn a bye into the ALDS, they have experience getting through in the Wild Card round anyway. Last year, they defeated the Boston Red Sox in three games in the Wild Card round to advance to the 2025 ALDS, where they fell to eventual AL pennant winner Toronto Blue Jays.
