The New York Yankees secured their place in the 2026 postseason after the Toronto Blue Jays lost 8-3 to the Detroit Tigers. Following an 8-3 road win against the Minnesota Twins on Monday night, catcher Austin Wells complimented the club’s starting rotation who has been a major key to their success.

“They're the best in baseball,” Wells remarked.

New York ranks first in terms of starter ERA and fourth in WHIP. Despite dealing with injuries to key arms like Max Fried, Gerrit Cole, and Carlos Rodon at different points in the campaign, individuals like Will Warren and Cam Schlittler have been consistent contributors.

Schlittler has been particularly lethal in his first full big-league season. Across 31 starts, the 25-year-old has gone 14-6 with a sizzling 1.95 ERA. He leads the sport in ERA and is third in terms of WHIP.

Wells has worked closely with the staff as the Yankees’ starting catcher and has been an effective defensive force. According to Baseball Savant, he ranks in the 91st percentile in terms of Blocks Above Average and the 93rd percentile in Framing.

The former first-round pick has struggled offensively overall, but has shown pop that could be beneficial. He homered in both the Yankees' Sunday win over the New York Mets and their Monday victory in Minnesota.

The Yankees’ rotation is nearly at full strength, and while only time will tell whether or not the team will be able to bring home the franchise’s 28th World Series title, it is apparent that Wells is confident that the group has what it takes to make a serious push.
