The Philadelphia Eagles recently reunited with tight end Zach Ertz following the news that Dallas Goedert had sustained a sprained MCL. The move gives the Eagles some veteran experience at the position as the team looks to weather the storm in Goedert's absence.
Now, more information has come to light regarding Ertz's potential status for Monday's upcoming game against the Chicago Bears on the road.
“Sean Mannion says they will see how the week goes with Zach Ertz before they know how he will be used in the offense but Ertz’s ability to be a pass-catching threat is one of the reasons he is here,” reported NFL insider Eliot Shorr-Parks of 94WIP.com on X, formerly Twitter.
Shorr-Parks also shared his own thoughts on the signing.
“I think it’s a smart move. They need depth at TE and immediate help with Goedert out. This fills both of those needs,” he noted.
It remains to be seen how much Ertz has left in the tank after spending the last portion of his career with the Washington Commanders, sustaining a significant injury of his own during his time there.
However, if he can even remotely resemble the version of himself that previously suited up for the Eagles, it will have been a move worth making for Philadelphia, regardless of how long Goedert ends up being out.
Meanwhile, Jalen Hurts and the offense overcame a slow start to beat the Tennessee Titans on Sunday afternoon, and now will hit the road for their toughest challenge yet against the Bears, albeit with Chicago potentially down to its third-string quarterback for that one.
Kickoff is set for Monday evening at 8:15 pm ET from Chicago.
