The New Jersey Devils have made the biggest move of the season so far. Connor Hellebuyck had been on the trade market after requesting a move be made following the 2025-26 season. On Friday, the Devils traded for Hellebuyck from the Winnipeg Jets.
The Devils are set to play their second game since the trade on Tuesday night against the Dallas Stars, and now the plan in between the pipes for the team is known, per hockey insider Frank Seravalli.
“Connor Hellebuyck makes his #njdevils debut tonight in Dallas,” Seravalli posted on X, formerly Twitter.
Hellebuyck has not played in an NHL game since April 13 against the Vegas Golden Knights. It was a down season for the former Vezina Trophy and Hart Trophy winner. Hellebuyck started 53 games, with a 23-23-11 record and a 2.86 goals-against average. He also had an .895 save percentage. It was the first time in his NHL career he did not have a shutout during a season or have a save percentage over .900. It was also his worst goals-against average since the 2021-22 season.
Overall, Hellebuyck spent 11 seasons with the Jets. In that time, he went 345-208-55 with a 2.58 goals-against average and a .916 save percentage. Now, the netminder is excited to be with the Devils.
