With the Oklahoma football team coming off a 14-6 win over New Mexico, the program now prepares for a tough matchup in Week 4, taking on an SEC powerhouse. Ahead of the Oklahoma football program facing the Georgia Bulldogs in Week 4, a rival coach would ponder the deficiencies of the Sooners.
Through three games, the Oklahoma football team has recorded 329.67 yards per game, which is the lowest in the conference thus far, as one could argue it's been disappointing, to say the least, with John Mateer at quarterback.
An opposing coach who faced the program this season would say to On3 Sports that they believe the Sooners are just in a “rut” and with second-year offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle, “he can figure it out.”
“I think he may just be in a rut. I don’t look at it and say, ‘what the f*** are they doing, what the hell is going on?’ I don’t look at it like that, I really don’t. Ben is a bright guy. He can figure it out. He’s a sharp coach,” the coach said.
Another opposing coach would praise Matter, who has thrown for 652 yards, six touchdowns, and three interceptions through three games.
“Mateer is good,” the coach said. “He’s big, fast, and tough to tackle. He’s got a strong, accurate arm. His weakness is that he does not read coverages very well.”

When it comes to the senior quarterback, the coach who praised him would add on by saying that maybe the way for the offense to add another layer is if they ran more with Mateer. It could also just come down to Mateer's weapons around him not being too strong.
“The tight ends are really good, but they have poor speed at wide receiver,” the same coach said. “[Isaiah] Sategna is really the only guy. The running backs are below average. The offensive line is below average.”
At any rate, it remains to be seen if the Oklahoma football team will improve as they take on the Bulldogs on Saturday.
