Former Alabama legendary coach Nick Saban has seen plenty of quarterbacks take over a game. After watching Trinidad Chambliss lead Ole Miss past LSU last weekend, he sounds ready to stop picking against this one.
“I'm going to tell you one thing I learned last week: I am never going to pick against Trinidad Chambliss ever again,” Saban said on the Pat McAfee Show Friday. “That guy is the playmaker of all playmakers. Talk about a point guard who can score and create plays for other people in a game. Nobody does it better than him.”
Chambliss completed 33 of 48 passes for 363 yards and two touchdowns in Ole Miss’ 32–24 win. He threw one interception, but answered when the Rebels needed him most, running for the go-ahead touchdown in the fourth quarter after LSU erased a 17-point halftime deficit. Ole Miss then sealed the victory when Jaylon Braxton intercepted LSU quarterback Sam Leavitt near the goal line in the final minute.
The result carried an extra edge with Lane Kiffin returning to Oxford as LSU’s head coach. His Tigers rallied to tie the game at 24, but Chambliss took control of the next possession and put Ole Miss back in front. It was the kind of response that can change how even a coach with Saban’s résumé talks about a player.
Saban’s point went beyond the final stat line. Chambliss made plays through the air, delivered the decisive score with his legs, and kept the Rebels moving after LSU had captured the momentum. He was far from flawless, but against one of Ole Miss’ biggest opponents, he made sure the mistake did not define his afternoon.
