On Monday evening, the Denver Broncos laid an egg to open up their season with an ugly road loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in primetime. The Broncos' new offensive strategy, with Sean Payton handing off the playcalling duties to Davis Webb, didn't exactly pay dividends in this one, as the Broncos were only able to muster 10 points on the evening.

On Tuesday, NFL insider Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network stopped by ESPN's The Pat McAfee Show and broke down what he thinks Payton should do moving forward from the loss.

“Davis Webb is a really good young coach and Sean Payton did this for a really good reason.. Sean Payton is a great evaluator of coaches and he knows what he has in Davis Webb,” he said, per Pat McAfee on X, formerly Twitter.

Clearly, Rapoport doesn't believe that the Broncos should make any drastic changes based on one ugly Week 1 performance to open up the season.

Still, it's hard not to be at least somewhat concerned at the lifeless effort that Denver put up throughout most of the game, with quarterback Bo Nix tossing an interception to Chiefs rookie cornerback Mansoor Delane on his very first pass attempt of the game.

Although the Broncos' second drive was much more impressive, marching right down the field and finding the end zone, the unit was largely stifled from there, resulting in the final score of 31-10.

Of course, Week 1 results are well-known for being misleading at times, so it's unlikely that Payton will panic or make sweeping changes.

However, the team will certainly want to turn in a much better performance next week vs the Jacksonville Jaguars.
