The entire NFL world knows just how good Kenneth Walker III is considering that he played a huge role in the Seattle Seahawks' Super Bowl triumph last season. Alas, the Seahawks didn't choose to re-sign Walker, as they felt as though they had no more room under the cap to bring him back considering that they spent plenty to keep other core members of their championship-winning squad. But the Seahawks' loss is the Kansas City Chiefs' gain.

The Chiefs made it a priority of theirs to improve their running game after lacking that dimension over the past few seasons, signing Walker to a three-year, $43.05 million contract this past offseason.

This signing is already bearing fruit as soon as the first game of the new season. Walker ran riot all over the Denver Broncos' defense, including a 60-yard touchdown that basically sealed the game in Kansas City's favor in a 31-10 victory in their season-opener.

After the game, Walker joined Scott Van Pelt on the SportsCenter booth and admitted just how much of a “blessing” it was for him to play this well in his debut for the Chiefs.

“Monday Night Football, out here with all these fans, it's a blessing,” Walker said. “It's good. They trust me. They trust the running backs. They trust that we gonna be able to move the ball with the run game.”

Walker had 23 carries on the night for a total of 175 yards, and it's the mere threat he provides for the Chiefs on the field that makes this team all the more dangerous on offense.

Kansas City went back to the running well often on the night; the team's running backs had 38 combined carries, while quarterback Patrick Mahomes only had 27 pass attempts on the night, completing 15 of them.

Having Walker allows the Chiefs to ease Mahomes, in his return from an ACL/LCL injury back in December 2025, back into action. The threat of the running game should only open up more crevices for Mahomes to exploit moving forward, setting Kansas City up for a promising 2026 season.
