The Dallas Cowboys are still steaming after their Week 1 loss to the Giants. And another division foe awaits in Week 2. But here is why Jerry Jones is dumping cold water on another big trade, at least for now, according to a post on X by Jon Machota.

“Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, when asked on @1053thefan about potentially finding outside help to improve their roster: ‘If you wanted to, this is a narrow window of making changes on the roster, at this date. You don't have a lot of moving around relative to where you were at other parts of the year. It's not something where you come in and say, ‘We're going to reshuffle this deck' after your first game. That's not practical.’ ”

The Cowboys are spiraling a bit after getting knocked around 28-20 by the Giants in their season opener.

Cowboys looking for a bounce-back, not a trade

NFL teams don’t go looking for a trade every time something goes wrong. But the Cowboys seem to be poking around other rosters all the time. But first things first, they need to get their act together or a trade may not help much.

The biggest problem was defense. The Cowboys hailed new defensive coordinator Christian Parker as the next great thing. And maybe he still gets there. But his only resume as a coordinator so far is the mess against the Giants. It was a game full of blown coverages.

To Parker’s credit, he went back to work, according to alldlls.com.

“Yeah, he’s been great,” head coach Brian Schottenheimer said. “He came into my locker room last night. He and I talked at length last night in my locker room and just talked about his exposures and some of the things that he learned and some of the things that we wanted to do differently looking back.

“And again, very methodical as you would imagine, just like what we’ve seen with every experience and exposure to him, very methodical, very convicted, didn’t make excuses, need to be better, will be better starting with X, Y, Z. And he and I were on the same page with that, which is a good thing.”
