On Sunday, the Washington Commanders suffered a consequential loss to the Dallas Cowboys that saw Jayden Daniels go down with an ugly dislocated elbow injury at the end of the first half. Daniels will now likely be out for the foreseeable future, with quarterback Marcus Mariota slated to step back into the starter role, which he also occupied quite often last year amid other Daniels injury absences.
On Wednesday, the team got the latest update on Daniels' recovery process.
“Dan Quinn said there's no update on Jayden Daniels because he's seeing another specialist today. Clearly he won't play Sunday,” reported John Keim of ESPN on X, formerly Twitter.
Keim also shared some other injury updates from around the roster.
“Nick Cross also has been ruled out Sunday because of an internal injury.LB Frankie Luvu, TE Chig Okonkwo and DL Javon Kinlaw will be wait-and-see.
RG Sam Cosmi is in the concussion protocol,” he reported.
Daniels' injury occurred after he was stepped on after taking the snap from the center, causing him to stumble backward and reach down to the field for balance, which then bent his elbow at an awkward angle, causing Tom Brady to curse on air in shock as he saw the replay.
Injury concerns were always going to be a question mark for Daniels coming out of college, especially considering his relatively thin frame for the NFL level, and the last two years certainly have not done much to quiet that noise.
The Commanders will next hit the field on Sunday for a tough home game against the Seattle Seahawks.
