'What's the procedure?' - Ravindra Jadeja's cheeky reply to BCCI selector vacancy

The all-rounder made a rare social media appearance to comment on Ajit Agarkar's tenure ending.

Ravindra Jadeja is not particularly active on X. Still, the India all-rounder made a rare appearance on the platform on Wednesday after the BCCI invited applications for the vacant chairman of selectors' position.

The BCCI opened the application process after Ajit Agarkar's tenure as chairman of the men's selection committee ended. Reacting to the board's post, Jadeja simply asked, “What the procedure?”

Jadeja's brief response came shortly after the BCCI confirmed Agarkar's departure. The all-rounder rarely interacts on X, making his reply stand out. His previous interaction on the platform came on February 19, when he responded to former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin's post about Nepal cricket.

Agarkar's tenure officially ended on October 4, with former India spinner Pragyan Ojha currently serving as the interim chairman of the men's selection committee. Shiv Sundar Das, Ajay Ratra and RP Singh are the other members of the panel.

Gautam Gambhir pays tribute to Ajit Agarkar

Jadeja's reaction came on the same day that India head coach Gautam Gambhir paid tribute to Agarkar following his exit from the selection committee.

Gambhir highlighted Agarkar's belief in putting the team ahead of everything else and credited him for his contribution to India's recent success.

“Dear Ajit Bhai, an absolute honour to work with you. Those 3 ICC trophies are testimony of your conviction: Team first & Team ahead, always.. I must say, History will be kinder to you. Thank you for everything. My heartfelt wishes for your future endeavours!!” Gambhir wrote on X.

Agarkar's stint as chairman coincided with a highly successful period for Indian cricket. India won the 2024 T20 World Cup, 2025 Champions Trophy and 2026 T20 World Cup during his tenure.

Jadeja's eligibility for the selector role

Despite his cheeky comment, Jadeja is not currently eligible for the selector role. BCCI rules require applicants to have retired from cricket at least five years previously. Jadeja retired from T20I cricket in 2024 but remains an active Test and ODI cricketer and continues to play in the Indian Premier League, which places him outside the eligibility window for the position.
