The Minnesota Vikings took on the Green Bay Packers to kick off the 2026 NFL season on Sunday. Kyler Murray made his Vikings debut in a clash of fierce NFC North rivals. Unfortunately, his debut ended far sooner than he expected it to.

Murray threw just five passes in this game against the Packers before leaving with an injury. He was eventually ruled out with a concussion. He took a huge hit early in the game, with contact coming quite close to his head.

After the game, Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell spoke about his quarterback's injury status. However, he offered no concrete return timeline for when Minnesota will see its signal-caller return to the field.

“Kevin O’Connell says he saw Kyler Murray after the game and says he seemed to be doing well. But O’Connell said he had no update in terms of Murray’s return timetable from this concussion,” ESPN's Kevin Seifert reported.

Murray was replaced by veteran backup Carson Wentz. Wentz was able to handle the offense quite well against Green Bay. He didn't have the flashiest performance, racking up just 133 yards. But he threw for three touchdowns and did not turn the ball over.

Minnesota is now 1-0 on the new season. They are one of three teams in the NFC North to win their season opener. The Chicago Bears destroyed the Carolina Panthers. And the Detroit Lions eeked out a close win over the New Orleans Saints in overtime.

The Vikings are back in action on September 20 against the Bears. Only time will tell if Murray is able to play in that game.
