While the Indianapolis Colts are dealing with the aftermath of firing GM Chris Ballard, the names popping up to replace him seem far-fetched. But there’s still a season to play, and here’s what Daniel Jones said about yet another disastrous performance in the rock-bottom loss to the Titans, according to a post on X by James Boyd.
“There’s some times, forced some stuff that’s not there,” Jones. “I gotta be smart about that. Know when it’s there and when it’s not. Certainly today wasn’t consistent enough. I gotta do a better job of (taking care of the ball). Give us a chance to win.”
Jones completed only 22 of 42 passes for 269 yards in the 26-20 setback. He had one touchdown pass and two interceptions. Jones also went down six times on sacks.
Colts QB Daniel Jones struggling in 2026
Jones has thrown for 1,290 yards with only four touchdowns in six games. He also has six interceptions. Those are bad numbers. Last year, he had 19 touchdown passes and eight interceptions in 13 games. Despite his inconsistent play, Jones will remain as the Colts’ starter, according to Fox Sports.
“I think Daniel knows he's got to play better,” Steichen said. “I got to coach better.”
Steichen said Jones must get more done on the field, according to ESPN.
“I love Daniel, but we have to clean up the turnovers,” Steichen said. “He's our starting quarterback.”
And the team must improve.

The Colts likely made a bad move in throwing all that money at Jones, according to ESPN.
The Colts were so determined to keep Jones as their quarterback this offseason, even though he was coming off a season-ending Achilles tear, that they used the transition tag to keep him off the free agent market, then handed him a two-year, $88 million contract with nearly $50 million guaranteed. Through six weeks, the Colts are 2-4, and Jones is statistically one of the worst quarterbacks in the league.
