Tristan Peters went back and forth against Cleveland's pitching, making MLB history with his walk in the Chicago White Sox's series opener against the Guardians on Monday evening.

Peters is going through the second season of his career in the majors, his first with the White Sox. He spent his rookie campaign with the Tampa Bay Rays before seeing his career head over to the Windy City.

Peters has broken out this season as a main fixture in the White Sox's batting unit. He has the squad in the mix of playoff contention, showing his crucial impact on the team's success this year.

Chicago was due for an important series against Cleveland, fighting for the top spot in their division. The winner of the three-game set will have tiebreaker rules in their favor, making the stakes high for both squads.

Peters certainly understood this, leaving it all out on the field. He competed with Cleveland's pitching for 18 pitches before he finally forced a walk to first base. This paved the way for him to make MLB history thanks to his efforts, per reporter Sarah Langs.

“Tristan Peters!! 18-pitch walk. That’s tied for the fifth-most pitches in a PA since pitch counts tracked (1988). It’s tied for the MOST in a PA ending in a walk in that span! (6/10/04 Adam Kennedy),” Langs wrote.

The White Sox dugout went nuts after Tristan Peters won an 18-pitch at-bat. 😂

How Tristan Peters, White Sox played against Guardians

Tristan Peters's effort certainly spread throughout the White Sox squad, locking in to beat the Guardians 7-3 to begin the series this week.

Both teams were scoreless throughout the first half of the game, taking until the sixth inning. Chicago torched Cleveland with six runs in the frame. The hosts never recovered from this onslaught of runs, as the offense couldn't keep up with their visiting opponents.

Chicago improved to a 77-73 record on the season, controlling the top spot in the AL Central Division standings. They are above the Guardians and the Detroit Tigers at the moment.

The White Sox will look forward to Game 2 of their three-game set against the Guardians. The contest takes place on Sept. 15 at 6:40 p.m. ET.
