The Georgia football team won a close game over Alabama on Saturday night, 20-17. It was a huge road win for the Bulldogs, who felt the anger of Alabama fans. Alabama fans threw objects at Georgia's players after the game, per ESPN.
It was certainly a frustrating loss for Alabama. The game had a major impact in the SEC standings, as well as the College Football Playoff picture. This was Georgia head coach Kirby Smart's first win with Georgia in Tuscaloosa, the outlet reported.
“I didn’t come here to lose,” Smart said postgame.
In one controversial sequence, a Georgia defensive back appeared to commit pass interference against an Alabama receiver. That sequence occurred in the end zone. No penalty was called, which likely contributed to the fans' anger.
“We can’t put the game in that situation where the officials come into play,” Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer said. “We just got to control the things we can control.”
The Bulldogs were very successful on offense Saturday. Georgia posted 455 total yards, including 206 rushing yards. The team was also very successful on third down. Georgia converted seven of their 13 third-down conversion attempts.
Georgia is making a case that it is the no. 1 team in the country. Following the win, the Bulldogs are now 6-0 overall. Georgia also has a 4-0 SEC conference record. The team is alone in first in the SEC.
Alabama meanwhile fell to 5-1 on the season. The two teams could find themselves meeting again at some point this year. Both Alabama and Georgia are considered two of the best college football teams in the country.
Georgia is next in action against Auburn on Saturday.
