Jaylen Brown has found an unusual way to prepare for his first season with the Philadelphia 76ers. The 29-year-old forward was recently spotted in Italy wearing full fencing gear and trading moves with a young Canadian foil fencer named DeGroot at a training facility near Milan.
In a video shared by Sleeper 76ers on X, formerly Twitter, Brown is seen going deep into a fencer's mindset as he focuses on the intricacies of the sport. The latest venture adds to an already disciplined offseason that has taken him far beyond a typical NBA workout routine.
Not only that, the new Sixers star has spent the past several weeks engaging in activities other than just basketball training. He also participated in some combat sports and high-adrenaline activities during his preparation for his first season in Philadelphia.
Brown recently went skydiving over the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt, confronting his fear of heights as he celebrated the end of his twenties. In the video shared on his Instagram, the star small forward was seen praying to god before jumping off the jump plane.
He then traveled to Lagos, Nigeria, where he participated in an amateur boxing exhibition through his 7uice Foundation.
Brown has also continued his basketball work during the offseason, training with shooting coach Lethal Shooter and working with new 76ers assistant coach Phil Handy. The combination has made for a much different preparation period than Brown experienced during his 10 seasons with the Boston Celtics.
Philadelphia acquired Brown in a major offseason trade as another established scorer to play alongside Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey. Brown now enters training camp with a significant role on a team looking to take a major step in the Eastern Conference.
