As long as Stephen Curry is healthy and humming, the Golden State Warriors have a chance to win. On Wednesday night, Curry was back to his torching ways, saving his best for the Minnesota Timberwolves as he led the Dubs to their second win of the season, 119-114.
Curry was on fire for most of the night, making mincemeat of the Timberwolves' defense and finishing with a season-best 44 points on 11-of-27 shooting from the field (6-of-16 from deep) and a perfect 16-of-16 from the charity stripe.
In finishing with over 40 points on the night, Curry matched LeBron James' total for most 40-point games by any player aged 35 or older with his 15th such game. Rounding out the top five are Michael Jordan (12), Kevin Durant (nine), James Harden (six), and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (four), as shown in the NBC Sports Bay Area broadcast.
Now at 38 years of age, Curry has slowed down a bit. All the running and moving around the basketball court has taken a toll on his knees, and the Warriors have been managing his workload by giving him the night off on at least one end of a back-to-back set. But when healthy, there is no doubting just how productive Curry can be.
He showed during the Warriors' first win of the season against the Denver Nuggets back on Monday that his mere presence creates so much space for his teammates, and he finished that game with 24 points on perfect shooting from the field and foul line.
Article Continues BelowTonight, Curry was the star of the show. Taking advantage of a matchup against a Timberwolves team missing its best player, Anthony Edwards, Curry took over and was launching audacious shots from all over the court — shots that only he and a select few could even think about launching, let alone making.
This kind of performance from Curry ignites the little bit of hope Warriors fans have that, perhaps with the right roster, they can have one last contending hurrah.
