Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr is embracing the team's future now that the team is actually in a position of need. With the Warriors needing all the offensive production they can get amid injuries to Jimmy Butler and Kristaps Porzingis, two of the team's best scorers alongside Stephen Curry, Kerr is opting to change Draymond Green's role quite a bit to make him more of a scoring threat.

Green has essentially functioned as the team's floor general over the past decade or so, with the Warriors utilizing him on dribble hand-offs and on short rolls to make the most of his elite playmaking skills. But now, Kerr is encouraging Green to take more threes and to cede more playmaking reps to Brandin Podziemski and Yaxel Lendeborg.

While it is difficult to teach an old dog new tricks, Green acknowledged that changes happen in the NBA and he needs to get on with the program as the Warriors opt to diversify their offensive approach.

“I've been playing a certain way for so long. It's a big adjustment. But (I'll) figure it out,” Green told reporters after the Warriors' 104-101 loss to the Clippers on Sunday in preseason action, via Luca Evans of the San Francisco Chronicle. “Whether I like it or not, it’s going to happen. So I don’t wanna get off into it, whether I like it or dislike it. It is what it is.”

It is difficult to conduct an offense if defenses don't pay much respect to a player's scoring threat, and the Warriors have certainly run into that issue with Green. While his defensive versatility, communication, and leadership still make him a valuable player even at age 36, the Dubs are looking to get him a new lease in life on offense.

Green is a future Hall of Famer and a professional basketball player who takes so much pride in how he can contribute to a winning cause. The Warriors need him to master his new role, and considering how smart he is, it should only be a matter of time before he does.
