On Sunday, the Minnesota Vikings hit the field for the first time in the 2026 season at home against the Green Bay Packers. The game marked the Minnesota debut of quarterback Kyler Murray, who won the starting job over JJ McCarthy after the team signed him in free agency following his stint with the Arizona Cardinals.

Unfortunately, Murray did not exactly get off to a great start to his Minnesota tenure, as his first attempt was a recklessly launched ball down the field that was easily intercepted by Green Bay.

Murray was brought in by the Vikings in large part to give the team a stable veteran presence at the quarterback position, hoping to avoid some of the reckless decisions made by McCarthy last year in his first healthy season in the NFL.

The former number one overall draft pick didn't exactly show that poise and experience with this first pass attempt, and the Packers were able to cash in on the turnover with three points, taking an early lead on the road.

Minnesota is hoping to make some noise in the NFC once again this year after narrowly missing the playoffs a season ago despite finishing with a winning record. It remains to be seen how long a leash the team will have for Murray if his struggles continue throughout the season.

In any case, the Vikings will next hit the field on September 20 for a tough road game against the Chicago Bears, who got off to a 1-0 start on Sunday afternoon.
