The Minnesota Vikings have a chance to bolster the quarterback room aside from Kyler Murray with young talents for the long term. There is one player in question that could be on their radar.

Minnesota is off to an incredible start in the 2026 season under head coach Kevin O'Connell. They stand alone as the last undefeated team, winning all of its first six games. It is a big surprise, seeing them exceed expectations after missing the cut for the playoffs in 2025.

ClutchPoints revealed a mock draft on the players teams can select throughout Round 1 of the 2027 NFL Draft. Minnesota finds itself at the 32nd spot, getting the projection of selecting Missouri Tigers quarterback Austin Simmons.

“This is a bit of a personal preference pick for the Vikings. We will see what happens with Kyler Murray as the season goes along, but Minnesota still needs a franchise QB, despite the gaudy 2026 record. Austin Simmons is a unique player and could become a star in the NFL. If you haven’t seen the big lefty play yet, check him out and see if you agree that he should be a first-round pick next year,” editor Tim Crean wrote.

What lies ahead for Vikings this season

The Vikings could set themselves up for a promising long-term option at quarterback if Kyler Murray doesn't work out. Austin Simmons shows off impressive versatility as a dual-threat quarterback, rightfully earning projections in the first round.
