The Golden State Valkyries needed quite a long time to get a point on the board in Game 3 of the 2026 WNBA Finals against the Atlanta Dream on Wednesday.
Nearly five minutes had passed in the first quarter before the Valkyries finally got their offense going, and it came in the form of a free throw from Kaila Charles at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta. She missed the first free throw attempt but made the second, making the score 8-1 in favor of the host team, Atlanta.
Apparently, that long dry spell set a new record in the WNBA Finals that the Valkyries surely didn't want to own.
“The Valkyries' 4:53 scoring drought to start Game 3 was the second-longest drought to open a WNBA Finals game all-time, according to Elias,” Alexa Philippou of ESPN shared via a social media post on X, formerly Twitter.
It wasn't the type of start Golden State was looking for in Game 3, as the Valkyries look to get back on track and take the series lead again after losing Game 2 at Chase center in San Francisco on Monday, 79-65. Golden State won the series opener at home, 68-64.
Article Continues BelowThe Valkyries are finding out how tough it is to win in the WNBA Finals, and the same can be said about Angel Reese and the Dream. But at least for Atlanta, it had the momentum going into Game 3, not to mention the homecourt advantage it is enjoying in this contest.
Golden State entered Game 3 with a 107.6 offensive rating in the WNBA playoffs.
