Patience has officially run out in Los Angeles. The University of Southern California Trojans suffered a crushing 41-27 loss to the Oregon Ducks at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on Saturday night, sending shockwaves through the fan base and plunging head coach Lincoln Riley into the hottest seat of his tenure.

What stings most for Trojan nation is how quickly everything unraveled in the fourth quarter. USC fought back from a ten-point deficit to tie the game at 27-27 behind quarterback Jayden Maiava, who threw for 326 yards and two touchdowns. However, Oregon answered with 14 unanswered points to put the game completely out of reach.

USC’s Lincoln Riley needs to go. Not only allowing this type of behavior but going for it on 4th and 7 at midfield with 8 minutes left down a TD. @ADJenniferCohen @BeongKim do your job, fire @LincolnRiley. https://t.co/m0IIjeK5en

Lincoln Riley has five years left on his contract. If USC loses to Oregon, then it’d be the best 50 million ever spent to buy out his contract and fire his ass. He made so many bad decisions last season that cost them two wins. pic.twitter.com/6IgdsW52Cw

Ok, USC needs to not only fire Lincoln Riley – they might have to shut down the entire program.

No way they're coming back from this Dan Lanning quote.

It was a good run. But it's over 😲😲 https://t.co/34viRgbPAS

The ultimate turning point arrived after Oregon backup quarterback Dylan Raiola fired a 29-yard touchdown pass to put the Ducks ahead 34-27. Facing a fourth-and-7 at midfield with roughly eight minutes remaining, Riley made the controversial decision to go for it rather than punt. The pass fell incomplete, giving Oregon short field position to set up a game-clinching touchdown. In total, USC's defense yielded 504 total yards to Oregon's high-powered attack.

Following the defeat, furious fans flooded social media to demand immediate action from athletic director Jennifer Cohen, calling the two-touchdown home loss an unacceptable turning point.

“USC’s Lincoln Riley needs to go,” one frustrated fan posted on X. “Not only allowing this type of behavior but going for it on 4th and 7 at midfield with 8 minutes left down a TD… do your job, fire Lincoln Riley.”

Another fan echoed the sentiment: “There’s a certain finality you feel as Lincoln Riley walks off the field. That was a must-win game for him. USC didn’t just lose, they lost by two touchdowns in a game tied in the 4th quarter. Embarrassing.”

With five years and roughly $50 million remaining on his contract, the calls for USC to buy out Riley are no longer quiet background noise, they are a deafening roar.
