The Trojans must find a way to effectively replace redshirt senior defensive tackle Alex VanSumeren, who suffered a lower-body injury in the first half of Saturday's battle versus Oregon. He eventually returned to the sidelines in street clothes, per LAFB Network's Ryan Dyrud, signaling that his night was over.

The Michigan State transfer recorded seven combined tackles and one and a half tackles for loss in the first four games of the season. Despite having the support of the home crowd, USC is running into old problems versus the Ducks. Even if Lincoln Riley and his squad escape with a victory, they will have serious questions to answer on defense. Though, that may be easier to do with VanSumeren on the field.

Injuries were an unfortunate theme in Los Angeles. While sliding, Oregon star quarterback Dante Moore took a big hit to the head from USC linebacker Desman Stephens II and was carted into an ambulance. He is being evaluated at Los Angeles General County Hospital. Stephens, who was inexcusably smiling and dapping up players on the sidelines, was disqualified for targeting after officials reviewed the play.

The Trojans will have to address Stephens' behavior, and their increasingly thin defense after this Big Ten showdown. Hopefully, both Dante Moore and Alex VanSumeren receive good news before night's end. USC and Oregon remain locked in a shootout inside LA Memorial Coliseum.
