The Baltimore Ravens have ended their kicking competition, releasing Jake Moody from the practice squad Tuesday after Tyler Loop impressed in the season opener against the Indianapolis Colts.
Loop converted field goals from 57 and 45 yards during Baltimore's 41-23 win. The 57-yarder marked a career long for Loop and came after a difficult preseason that had led the Ravens to bring Moody into the mix.
Loop entered the season with doubts surrounding him after missing a 44-yard attempt in last season's finale, a kick that ended Baltimore's season. His preseason numbers also left room for concern, as he connected on just 5 of 8 attempts (62.5%) across three games.
Still, Ravens head coach Jesse Minter had continued to express confidence in Loop. That confidence remained intact following his Week 1 performance, and Baltimore ultimately decided it did not need to keep another kicker on the practice squad.
The Ravens had added Moody on Aug. 31 as another option after his previous experience with the San Francisco 49ers, Washington Commanders and Chicago Bears. Moody, a 2023 third-round selection by San Francisco, played in 31 games during his first two seasons and appeared in six games for Washington, two for Chicago and one for the 49ers last season.
Baltimore also made a corresponding practice-squad move Tuesday, signing wide receiver Gage Larvadain. The move came after wide receivers Zay Flowers and Ja'Kobi Lane left Sunday's win with injuries.
Larvadain appeared in 13 games for the Cleveland Browns last season and recorded seven catches for 71 yards. He also has experience returning punts. The Browns released him on Aug. 30 after he spent training camp with the team.
