R Ashwin has shared his views on IPL player trades, calling the mechanism a valuable tool while noting that auctions maintain balance across franchises.
R Ashwin has weighed in on the growing volume of player movement between IPL franchises ahead of the IPL 2026 auction cycle, describing the trade window as a meaningful mechanism for teams looking to reshape their squads without waiting for the open market. He tagged his observation with #ipltrades, signalling that the discussion was directed at the broader pattern of franchise activity rather than any single deal.

Posting on X, Ashwin summarised his position in one line: 'Trade is a great instrument, while the auctions keep it even.' The remark captures a view that trades give franchises a targeted route to address specific needs, while the auction process acts as a corrective force that prevents any one side from accumulating too much advantage through bilateral deals alone.
Ashwin also mentioned that the Rajasthan Royals might want to bring in an experienced India fast bowler to forge a partnership with Jofra Archer. Last year, Nandre Burger and Archer formed a lethal partnership. However, having two overseas pacers in the playing XI leaves room for only two more overseas batters or all-rounders. Having Archer and an Indian pacer bowling in tandem could add more flexibility to the side.
Brijesh Sharma and Tushar Deshpande bowled well in patches during the season, but neither of them could put in match-winning performances.
The Rajasthan Royals, captained by Riyan Parag, had a good season, where they finished fourth at the end of the round-robin phase of the tournament. They had eight wins and six losses in their first 14 matches. In the playoffs, the Royals defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by 47 runs in the Eliminator. However, in Qualifier 2, they couldn't defend a 215-run target against the Gujarat Titans.

Yashasvi Jaiswal is reportedly in line for a swap, and that could deplete the Royals' batting resources considerably, despite the presence of the wonderkid Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who won the Orange Cap last season along with multiple other awards.
